Receiver (noise) temperature

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008439

A measure of the noise power generated by a receiver, expressed as an equivalent temperature in Kelvin. This temperature quantifies the internal noise contributions of the receiver's electronic components, which can degrade the quality of weak incoming signals. Lower receiver noise temperatures are desirable for detecting faint atmospheric emissions or scattered signals.
