Recession

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008440

The period of decreasing discharge in a stream or river following a peak flow event, as water drains from the surrounding watershed. This phase is characterized by a gradual decline in water levels as surface runoff diminishes and groundwater contributions become dominant. The shape of the recession curve provides insights into basin characteristics.
