Cloud top

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004447

The highest altitude of a cloud, where visible water droplets or ice crystals cease to exist. This boundary is often determined by the lifting condensation level or the level of neutral buoyancy within the atmosphere. Cloud top height is a key parameter for understanding atmospheric stability and radiative transfer, and it is measured by lidar, radar, or satellite remote sensing.
