Cloud tracer

A substance or property within a cloud that can be tracked to infer atmospheric motion or processes. Water vapor, cloud droplets, or ice crystals themselves can act as tracers when observed by remote sensing. Artificial tracers, such as inert gases, can also be released into clouds for research purposes.
