Cloud winds

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004449

Wind vectors derived from tracking the movement of identifiable cloud features across a sequence of satellite images. The process involves identifying a cloud element, measuring its displacement over a known time interval, and assigning it an altitude based on its infrared temperature or by other methods. These measurements provide wind data at different atmospheric levels, especially over oceanic and remote land areas.
