Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006542

A visual representation created by detecting and displaying infrared radiation emitted or reflected by objects. In meteorology, these images are primarily generated by satellites and show variations in temperature, with warmer areas appearing darker and colder areas (like high clouds) appearing brighter. They are widely used for tracking cloud systems, identifying severe weather, and monitoring sea surface temperatures, even at night.
