Thermal infrared

A portion of the electromagnetic spectrum corresponding to wavelengths typically emitted by objects at terrestrial temperatures, ranging from approximately 3 to 15 micrometers. This radiation is used in remote sensing to measure surface temperatures, detect clouds, and monitor atmospheric water vapor. Satellites like GOES and MODIS have thermal infrared channels.
