Electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths longer than visible light but shorter than microwaves. This portion of the spectrum is associated with heat and is emitted by all objects with a temperature above absolute zero. In atmospheric science, it is used for remote sensing of temperature, water vapor, and cloud properties.
