Microwave radiation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007288

Electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths between 1 millimeter and 1 meter, falling between infrared and radio waves in the electromagnetic spectrum. In atmospheric science, it is used for remote sensing from satellites and ground-based instruments to measure atmospheric temperature, water vapor, and precipitation. This radiation can penetrate clouds, providing data on weather conditions that visible light cannot.
