Infralateral tangent arcs
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006540
Rare optical phenomena that appear as bright, colored arcs tangent to the 46-degree halo, below the sun or moon. These arcs form when sunlight or moonlight refracts through hexagonal ice crystals oriented horizontally in the atmosphere. Their appearance is dependent on the sun's elevation and the precise orientation of the ice crystals.
