Tangent arcs

Arcs of light that appear tangent to the 22-degree halo, formed by the refraction of sunlight through hexagonal ice crystals in the atmosphere. Upper tangent arcs are convex to the sun, while lower tangent arcs are concave. Their shape varies with the sun's elevation angle.
