Middle infrared
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007292
A portion of the electromagnetic spectrum characterized by wavelengths between approximately 3 and 8 micrometers. This spectral region is particularly useful in remote sensing for detecting thermal emissions from the Earth's surface and atmosphere, as well as for identifying certain atmospheric gases. Satellite instruments often use middle infrared channels to monitor cloud properties and land surface temperatures.
