Profile matching
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008170
A data analysis technique that compares a measured vertical profile of an atmospheric variable, such as temperature or humidity, against a database of reference profiles. The goal is to find the reference profile that most closely resembles the observation in order to classify the atmospheric state or retrieve additional information. This method is applied in remote sensing, for instance, to derive atmospheric parameters from satellite radiance measurements by matching them to profiles with known characteristics.
