Brightness temperature

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004039

The temperature a blackbody would have to radiate with the same intensity at a given wavelength as the observed radiation from a real object. In remote sensing, it is derived from the measured radiance of the Earth's surface or atmosphere by a satellite instrument. This value is used to infer physical temperatures and atmospheric properties, such as water vapor content.
