Radiance

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-002228

  1. The measure of radiant flux passing through or emerging from a specific area within a given solid angle. It quantifies the intensity of electromagnetic radiation traveling in a particular direction, as observed by a remote sensor or instrument. Radiance is typically measured in watts per square meter per steradian (W·m⁻²·sr⁻¹).

  2. A measure of the intensity of the radiant energy flux emitted by a body in a given direction.
