Blackbody temperature
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003944
The temperature that a blackbody would have if it emitted the same amount of radiation as a given object. This concept is used in remote sensing to infer the temperature of surfaces or atmospheric layers from their emitted radiation. For example, satellite instruments measure infrared radiation to derive cloud top or sea surface temperatures.
