Blackbody radiation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-000330
Electromagnetic radiation emitted by an idealized physical body that absorbs all incident electromagnetic radiation, regardless of frequency or angle of incidence. The spectrum of this radiation depends solely on the body's temperature, described by Planck's Law. Earth's surface and atmosphere approximate blackbodies in certain wavelength ranges, influencing the planet's energy balance.
The electromagnetic radiation emitted by an ideal blackbody adhering to the radiation laws; it is the theoretical maximum amount of electromagnetic radiation of all wavelengths that can be emitted by a body at a given temperature.
