Radiant-energy thermometer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008295
An instrument that measures temperature by detecting the intensity of infrared radiation emitted by an object, without physical contact. It infers temperature based on the Stefan-Boltzmann law, which relates emitted radiation to an object's temperature. These devices are often used for remote sensing of surface and cloud top temperatures.
