Artificial ice nucleus

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003640

A substance introduced into a cloud to promote the formation of ice crystals at temperatures warmer than they would naturally form. These particles mimic the properties of natural ice nuclei, providing a surface for water vapor to deposit as ice. Silver iodide is a commonly used artificial ice nucleus in cloud seeding operations.
