Isotopic tracer

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006729

An isotope, either stable or radioactive, used to track the movement and transformation of substances within the atmosphere, oceans, or other environmental systems. By analyzing the ratios or concentrations of different isotopes, scientists can infer origins, pathways, and residence times of air masses or water.
