Isotope
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006728
Atoms of the same element that have the same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons, resulting in different atomic masses. Stable isotopes of water, such as oxygen-18 and deuterium, are used as tracers in atmospheric and hydrological studies. Their ratios can reveal information about past climate and water cycle processes.
