Environmental tracer

A substance, either natural or introduced, whose presence and distribution in the environment can be used to track the movement or transformation of atmospheric components. These tracers provide insights into air mass trajectories, pollutant dispersion, and hydrological cycles. Examples include stable isotopes of water or specific anthropogenic compounds.
