Comber
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004531
A long, deep-water wave whose crest is breaking into foam as it advances. The wave's crest moves faster than its base, causing it to spill or plunge forward and create a turbulent mix of air and water. Combers are distinguished from swell, which are waves that have traveled out of their generating area and have not yet started to break.
