Composite vertical cross section
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004557
A two-dimensional diagram showing the vertical structure of the atmosphere, created by averaging data from multiple instances of a specific weather phenomenon. For example, data from many cold fronts can be combined to create a single, representative cross section showing the average temperature, wind, and moisture fields. This method reveals the typical structure of a weather system by filtering out the peculiarities of individual cases.
