Cutting-off process
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004820
The atmospheric phenomenon where a high or low-pressure system becomes separated from the main zonal flow, typically the westerlies. This process involves the amplification of a wave in the upper-level flow, leading to the formation of a closed circulation that detaches from the primary current. It results in the creation of cutoff highs or cutoff lows.
