Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004498
A low-pressure system where the coldest air is found near the center of the circulation, extending through a deep layer of the atmosphere. These systems are often cut off from the main westerly flow and can persist for several days, bringing unsettled weather, including rain or snow, and below-average temperatures.
