Deepening of a depression
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004893
The process by which an atmospheric low-pressure system, or depression, experiences a decrease in its central pressure over time. This reduction in pressure indicates an intensification of the cyclonic circulation and an increase in associated weather phenomena. A deepening depression often leads to stronger winds and more widespread precipitation, with pressure drops sometimes exceeding 24 hectopascals in 24 hours for rapidly intensifying systems.
