Polar air depression

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008011

A low-pressure system that forms within a polar air mass, often over the ocean, and is characterized by its relatively small scale and intense cyclonic circulation. These depressions can bring sudden, localized heavy snowfalls or strong winds, particularly affecting coastal areas. They are distinct from larger, synoptic-scale mid-latitude cyclones.
