Axis of depression

The imaginary line or trough of lowest pressure that extends through the center of a low-pressure system or a cyclonic circulation. Air flows inward and counter-clockwise (in the Northern Hemisphere) around this axis, with rising motion occurring along it. This axis is often associated with unsettled weather, clouds, and precipitation.
