Axis of dilatation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003756
A line or direction along which a fluid parcel or air mass is undergoing divergence and expansion in its spatial extent. This process often leads to a decrease in velocity or intensity in other directions due to conservation principles. It is a concept used in fluid dynamics to describe deformation.
