Horizontal divergence
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006275
The rate at which air spreads out horizontally from a given point in the atmosphere, representing a net outflow of air. Positive divergence indicates a decrease in air density or mass in a column, often associated with sinking motion aloft and fair weather. It is a key component in understanding atmospheric dynamics and pressure changes.
