Divergence line

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005084

A line on a weather map that marks a boundary where horizontal airflow is spreading out, indicating a region of net outflow. This feature is often associated with areas of subsiding air and fair weather, as the spreading air inhibits cloud formation and precipitation. It can also represent the leading edge of a cold air mass or a region of upper-level outflow from a thunderstorm.
