Isobaric divergence
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006681
The rate at which air spreads out horizontally on an isobaric surface, indicating a net outflow of air from a given area. Positive isobaric divergence is associated with upward vertical motion in the atmosphere, often leading to cloud formation and precipitation. Conversely, convergence on an isobaric surface implies downward vertical motion.
