Direct flow
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005035
The component of streamflow that reaches a river channel quickly after precipitation, primarily through surface runoff and shallow subsurface flow. This contrasts with baseflow, which is sustained by groundwater discharge. Direct flow is responsible for rapid increases in river levels during and immediately after rainfall events.
