Groundwater runoff

The portion of precipitation that infiltrates the ground and moves through the subsurface to eventually discharge into streams, rivers, or other surface water bodies. This process contributes to baseflow in rivers, sustaining them during dry periods. It is a slow process compared to surface runoff.
