Drifting buoy

An unanchored buoy that floats freely on the ocean surface or at a set depth, collecting and transmitting meteorological and oceanographic data. These buoys are deployed to monitor sea surface temperature, atmospheric pressure, and ocean currents over vast areas. Data from drifting buoys are incorporated into global weather and ocean models.
