Drogue

A small parachute or cone-shaped drag device, used to slow the descent of an instrument package such as a dropsonde or to keep a towed or drifting object stable. In oceanography a drogue is a sea anchor hung below a drifting buoy so that the buoy follows the water current rather than the wind.
