Ecotone

A transitional zone between two distinct ecological communities or ecosystems, where characteristics of both adjacent areas are present. These zones often exhibit high biodiversity due to the presence of species from both bordering communities, as well as unique species adapted to the transitional conditions. An example is the boundary between a forest and a grassland.
