Equinoctial gales

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005444

Strong winds that occur around the times of the spring and autumn equinoxes. These gales are often associated with the increased atmospheric instability and frontal activity that characterize the transition seasons. While historically attributed directly to the equinox, their occurrence is more closely linked to the general seasonal shift in weather patterns.
