Flood marks

Physical evidence left on structures, trees, or land surfaces that indicates the maximum elevation reached by floodwaters during a past event. These marks can include debris lines, water stains, or sediment deposits. They provide direct observations of flood extent and depth, which are used to calibrate hydraulic models and map flood inundation areas.
