Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-001091
An upper-level line of abrupt wind shift and temperature change, not associated with a surface front. Fropas are characterized by a narrow band of strong vertical motion and are often linked to clear-air turbulence, posing a hazard to aircraft. The term is a contraction of "frontal passage" and is primarily used in aviation meteorology to denote these specific upper-air phenomena.
