Groundhog Day

A traditional observance held annually on February 2nd in parts of North America, where a groundhog's emergence from its burrow is said to predict the arrival of spring. If the groundhog sees its shadow, six more weeks of winter weather are expected. This folklore event has roots in European weather lore.
