Hailpad
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010530
A passive instrument used to measure the size and impact energy of hailstones. It consists of a foam or aluminum sheet designed to record the impressions left by falling hail. The size and depth of these indentations are then analyzed to determine hailstone diameter and kinetic energy, providing data for hail climatology and storm severity assessments.
