Hailstone

A pellet of ice, often spherical or irregular in shape, that falls from a cumulonimbus cloud during a thunderstorm. Hailstones grow by accreting supercooled water droplets and ice crystals as they are carried up and down by strong updrafts and downdrafts. Their size can vary from a few millimeters to several centimeters in diameter.
