Hail stage

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006145

A specific phase in the growth of a hailstone within a thunderstorm, where it accumulates layers of ice through accretion of supercooled water droplets. This stage involves repeated cycles of rising in updrafts and falling, allowing the hailstone to grow in size. The internal structure of a hailstone reveals its growth history.
