Dry stage

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005167

The portion of an air parcel's ascent, for example up a mountain slope, during which it is unsaturated and cools at the dry adiabatic lapse rate of about 9.8 degrees Celsius per kilometer until it reaches its condensation level. Above that level the parcel follows a saturated adiabat as condensation begins.
