Dry static energy

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005168

The sum of an air parcel's specific enthalpy (sensible heat) and its geopotential energy. This thermodynamic quantity is conserved for an unsaturated air parcel undergoing adiabatic vertical displacement in the atmosphere. Dry static energy is expressed in units of joules per kilogram (J/kg) and contrasts with moist static energy, which also includes the latent heat of water vapor.
