Montgomery streamfunction

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007410

A thermodynamic variable used in meteorology to analyze atmospheric flow on isentropic surfaces, which are surfaces of constant potential temperature. It is defined as the sum of enthalpy and geopotential height. The gradient of the Montgomery streamfunction on an isentropic surface is proportional to the geostrophic wind.
