Streamfunction

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009320

A scalar function used to describe two-dimensional, incompressible fluid flow, where the velocity components are derived from its partial derivatives. It simplifies the analysis of fluid motion by satisfying the continuity equation identically. In meteorology, it is often applied to horizontal flow in the atmosphere or ocean.
