Helioseismology
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006217
The study of the Sun's interior structure and dynamics by observing the oscillations on its surface. These oscillations, caused by sound waves resonating within the Sun, provide information about temperature, density, composition, and rotation beneath the photosphere. Understanding the solar dynamo through helioseismology is relevant to forecasting solar cycles and their influence on Earth's climate and space weather.
